Τhe pelvic floor consists of an important group of muscles. These muscles form the base of the pelvis, and their role is to support the pelvic organs (bladder, urethra, uterus, prostate, vagina, large intestine).
Proper contraction and relaxation of these muscles help ensure the normal function of the organs mentioned above. You can think of this muscle group as the lower part of your trunk, which holds the organs in place and regulates their proper function.
Dysfunction in this area can lead to symptoms such as urinary incontinence, sexual disorders, pain, and changes in regional sensation. Pelvic floor problems, also known as pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD), occur when the muscles in the area are stretched, lose strength, or become excessively tight.
Assessment of the pelvic floor muscles can guide the correct management of the problem or even its early prevention.
To honor all women, Physio Gatidou offers a free pelvic floor muscle assessment at the physiotherapy clinic from March 3 to March 8, 2025.
The assessment will be conducted by Ms. Christina Gatidou, a specialist in pelvic floor dysfunction.
